As a farm on a mountain side, deer crossing provides a number of world-class outdoor performance and gallery venues.

The Laurel Spiral - or Uterus Mundi - conceived and designed by art farm designer and curator, Deigo Samper, was planted in fall 2008.  The Spiral, once fully grown, will lead audiences through a forest-like maze into a central clearing.  The clearing, with seating and standing room for up to 80, is centered by a ten foot wide bonfire pit providing natural firelight for nighttime performances of all kind. The stage itself - the east portion of the clearing - has the North Shore mountains and the glow of Vancouver's lights for a backdrop.  The Spiral is designed around the Fall and Spring equinoxes with the entrances and exits at either extremes.

The Rainforest Gallery is located at the back of the art farm over looking Hutchison Creek.  A series of trails leads patrons through second growth fir and cedar and the charred remains of old growth. The 2008 open house was the Rainforest Gallery's inaugural showing - with a number of local artists displaying ceramic and sculptural work in and amongst the trees, mushrooms and shrubbery. As one audience member put it, It was "like an easter egg hunt for adults!" Of course, the kids loved it too.

The Summer of 2009, the art farm will be clearing space around the large Maple tree that greets visitors as they enter the forest. We will be terracing and creating a stage and gathering area for an alternate performance venue on the farm. Stay tuned for photos to come.
