Cob beginnings
Monday, June 15, 2009 - 10:00 - Sunday, June 21, 2009 - 17:00

The Mudgirls, a natural building collective from Saltspring and Lasquiti Islands, and their apprentices, Good Earth, a natural building collective here on the Sunshine Coast - along side art farm staff - will be setting the foundation and basic frame for the cob kitchen. The cob construction will take place in late August, as the the two collectives trade off in leading workshops for local participants.  Anyone interested in learning about cob building should contact us for details.

Cob finishings
Monday, August 17, 2009 - 09:00 - Friday, August 28, 2009 - 17:00

The Mudgirls, a Saltspring and Lasquiti Island-based natural building collective, will be leading the first of two workshop/work-parties in basic cob construction here on the art farm in late August.  The Good Earth Builders, a Sunshine Coast-based natural building collective apprenticed under the Mudgirls, will be leading the second.

The Mudgirls workshop, from August 17th to August 21st, will be working on the lower wall construction of a 100 square foot cob kitchen designed by local artist/architect Diego Samper. The workshop will include  basic framing techniques for doors and windows, cob recipes, roofing, and working with the mud itself.

The Good Earth workshop, from August 24th to August 28th, will be working on the upper wall construction as well as continued instruction in basic framing techniques, cob recipes, roofing and mud work.

Both workshops will be held on the art farm from 9 am to 5 pm. The workshops are free in exchange for your labor working on the structure. Fees for the workshops/work-parties cover daily lunch and an annual art farm membership.  Daily lunch is $10/day and art farm annual membership is $10 (ie. a week workshop is $60/pp). If you're already an art farm member, please subtract $10 from this fee. Childcare is available at an additional cost of $10/child per day.
